Injured India allrounder Pandya to miss Cricket World Cup game against New Zealand
India allrounder Hardik Pandya will miss the table-topping match against New Zealand at the Cricket World Cup on Sunday.
Pandya injured his left ankle while bowling against Bangladesh in Pune on Thursday. His scans from a local medical facility were sent to specialists in Mumbai and he was advised to rest.
“There is nothing major to worry (about a potential injury),” India captain Rohit Sharma said after beating Bangladesh by seven wickets. ”We have to be careful about how we proceed.”
Pandya will fly to Bengaluru to the National Cricket Academy and rehab with the India medical team.
Missing the game on Sunday allows him at least 10 days’ rest before India’s next game against defending champion England in Lucknow on Oct. 29, when Pandya could return.
He came to bowl against Bangladesh in the ninth over and delivered only three balls when he stumbled to field a straight drive from opener Liton Das.
India and New Zealand have four wins each and are the only unbeaten teams.
