Greenfield-Central star Braylon Mullins is top choice on Indiana AP all-state team
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Greenfield-Central senior Braylon Mullins entered this season as the focal point of every opponent after committing to UConn in October.
Mullins handled the pressure just fine.
The 6-foot-6 guard led the state with a scoring average of 32.9 points, added 7.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists and led Greenfield-Central to a 23-4 mark. He was rewarded by earning the Indiana Gatorade and MaxPreps Indiana player of the year awards and was the overwhelming top vote-getter on The Associated Press all-state boys team Friday.
The McDonald’s All-American closed his prep career with 2,158 points, which ranks No. 37 in state history and posted an 83-15 mark over his Greenfield-Central career, finishing last season by making 88 3-pointers and shooting 47.6% from beyond the arc.
Lawrence North guard Azavier Robinson was second in voting by a panel of the state’s sports writers, broadcasters and coaches. Players are chosen regardless of grade level or the classes in which their schools compete. The top 15 players comprise the three teams.
Jeffersonville forward Tre Singleton, Indianapolis Cathedral forward Brady Koehler and Indianapolis Attucks forward Dezmon Briscoe round out the all-senior first team. Singleton led Jeffersonville to the Class 4A state title, capping that run by beating defending state champ Fishers.
Robinson is heading to Butler, Singleton will play at Northwestern and Koehler is Notre Dame bound. Briscoe is undecided.
Mullins and Robinson were each second team selections last year while Briscoe made the third team in 2023-24.
South Bend Saint Joseph senior guard Chase Konieczny was the top choice on the second team. He was joined by Mount Vernon (Fortville) junior guard Luke Ertel, East Chicago Central senior forward Dominique Murphy Jr., Fishers sophomore guard Jason Gardner Jr., and Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian senior forward Kellen Pickett.
Pickett is going to Wright State. Konieczny, who led his school to the Class 3A state title, and Murphy remain uncommitted. Ertel has verbally committed to play at Purdue.
The all-senior third team is headlined by Julius Gizzi of New Palestine, Josiah Ball of Maconaquah, Justin Kirby of Fishers, Damien King of Anderson and Gavin Betten of Class 2A state champ Manchester.
Kirby is heading to Miami (Ohio). Gizzi will play at Indiana Wesleyan, Ball will play at Bethel and Betten is headed to Goshen. King is undecided.
Gizzi also made the third team last year.
Konieczny and Ball each finished their prep careers with 2,138 points (tied for 44th all-time). Betten scored 2,136 points, leaving him 49th on the career scoring list.
