DENVER (AP) — Orlando Arcia hit a two-run, single with two outs in the ninth inning and the Colorado Rockies rallied to beat the San Francisco Giants 8-7 on Thursday to snap a five-game losing streak.

With the Rockies trailing 7-5, Sam Hilliard walked with one out in the ninth against Ra3ndy Rodriguez (3-1) and Thairo Estrada hit what was ruled a double to left field to put runners on second and third. Ryan McMahon walked to load the bases. Brenton Doyle then hit a potential game-ending double-play grounder that was bobbled by Casey Schmitt, allowing a run to score and keeping the bases loaded.

Pinch-hitter Hunter Goodman struck out before Arcia delivered on a 3-2 pitch for the Rockies. Colorado improved to 13-55, tied for the worst start in the modern era with the 1932 Boston Red Sox.

Seth Halvorsen (1-1) pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win.

Dominic Smith had three hits including a three-run homer to help the Giants take the two-run lead into the ninth inning.

Smith’s 443-foot three-run homer in the fifth off Rockies starter Antonio Senzatela gave the Giants a 7-2 lead before the Rockies chipped away

Mickey Moniak had a solo homer in the sixth and Estrada added as two-run single in the seventh.

The Rockies avoided their 12th home sweep and are 7-27 at Coors Field, the worst home start in franchise history.

Giants’ starter Hayden Birdsong gave up three runs and six hits in six innings, with six strikeouts and two walks.

METS 4, NATIONALS 3

NEW YORK (AP) — Kodai Senga threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings Thursday before leaving with a hamstring strain in New York’s win over Washington that completed a three-game sweep.

Senga (7-3) allowed one hit and one walk before getting hurt while making a leaping grab of Pete Alonso’s high throw on CJ Abrams’ grounder between first and second. Senga touched the bag with his right foot on the way down but stumbled upon landing and reached for the back of his right leg. He hopped a couple of steps before tumbling to the ground.

After being surrounded by a trainer, his interpreter, manager Carlos Mendoza and teammates, Senga walked off the field under his own power. He lowered his major league-leading ERA to 1.47, but will be placed on the injured list.

RANGERS 16, TWINS 3

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Josh Smith, Jake Burger and Wyatt Langford went deep in the first two innings and Texas hit a season-high six home runs in a romp over Minnesota.

Evan Carter, Adolis Garcia and Sam Haggerty also homered as Texas scored 16 runs for the second time in three games. The Rangers beat Minnesota 16-4 on Tuesday night.

Patrick Corbin (4-5) allowed three runs in five-plus innings for his first victory since May 14, retiring 12 straight hitters at one point. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in his dozen starts this season.

TIGERS 4, ORIOLES 1

BALTIMORE (AP) — Tarik Skubal pitched seven shoutout innings, Parker Meadows hit a three-run homer and Detroit beat Baltimore.

Dillon Dingler also homered for the Tigers, who rebounded from a 10-1 defeat on Wednesday night to win the deciding matchup of the three-game series.

Showing the form that enabled him to unanimously win the 2024 AL Cy Young Award, Skubal (7-2) allowed three hits and permitted just one runner past second base. The lefty struck out six, walked two and lowered his ERA to a sparkling 1.99.

American League-leading Detroit scored all its runs in the fourth inning against Dean Kremer (5-7). Dingler hit a drive to center that cleared the wall and the glove of Colton Cowser, who was shaken up from colliding with the barrier.

CUBS 3, PIRATES 2

CHICAGO (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, Seiya Suzuki added a solo shot in the sixth, and Chicago held on for a win over Pittsburgh.

Cubs pitcher Jameson Taillon (7-3) went 6 1/3 innings against his former team, which drafted him No. 2 overall in 2010. He allowed two earned runs on four hits, three of which came in the seventh inning, and struck out seven batters.

Ryan Pressly pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

Andrew Heaney (3-5) gave up three earned runs over six innings and finished with seven strikeouts.

Crow-Armstrong’s 18th homer of the season and Suzuki’s 17th of the season moved the outfielders into fifth and tied for sixth in the National League, respectively.

The Pirates scored a pair of runs in the seventh with an RBI single from Adam Frazier and a bases-loaded walk by Jared Triolo.

BREWERS 6, CARDINALS 0

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jacob Misiorowski pitched five no-hit innings before leaving his major league debut with cramping in his right calf and quadriceps as Milwaukee defeated St. Louis.

Misiorowski (1-0) slipped on the front part of the mound after throwing his third pitch of the sixth. After medical staff went to check on him, he was removed in favor of Nick Mears.

The 6-foot-7 right-hander finished his dominant debut with five strikeouts and four walks while reaching a maximum velocity of 102.2 mph with his fastball.

The Cardinals didn’t get their first hit until Willson Contreras grounded a single up the middle against Aaron Ashby leading off the seventh. They finished with three hits.

Ashby worked the final three innings to earn his third career save and first since 2022.

ASTROS 4, WHITE SOX 3

HOUSTON (AP) — Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer and Jose Altuve doubled twice and had two RBIs to lead Houston over Chicago.

Houston led 4-2 entering the ninth before Mike Tauchman homered to right field off closer Josh Hader to get Chicago within 4-3. There were two outs when Miguel Vargas narrowly missed a homer on a double off the wall in left field.

But Hader struck out Austin Slater to improve to 18 of 18 on save opportunities this season.

Paredes appeared to injure his leg trying to beat out a double play in the seventh inning and was replaced at third base in the eighth. There was no immediate postgame update.

The Astros led by one with one out in the fifth when Paredes connected on his shot to left-center off Davis Martin (2-7) to make it 4-2. Martin yielded seven hits and four runs with five strikeouts in six innings.

Houston starter Framber Valdez (7-4) allowed seven hits and two runs with a season-high 12 strikeouts in five innings.

YANKEES 1, ROYALS 0

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Pablo Reyes stumbled, stopped and still scrambled home safely on a wild play in the eighth inning, taking advantage of a throwing error by reliever Lucas Erceg to give New York a victory over Kansas City.

New York completed a three-game sweep to finish 6-0 against the Royals this season after eliminating them 3-1 in their best-of-five playoff series last October.

Will Warren and four relievers combined on a five-hitter as the AL East-leading Yankees (42-25) moved a season-high 17 games over .500. They have the best road record in the majors at 21-13.

Mark Leiter Jr. (4-3) got one out for the win, and Devin Williams earned his ninth save.

The game was interrupted by rain for 28 minutes in the top of the sixth.
