CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — A brief look at the PGA Championship on Friday at Quail Hollow (all times EDT):

LEADING: Jhonattan Vegas (70) at 8-under 134.

CHASING: Matthieu Pavon (65), Matt Fitzpatrick (68) and Si Woo Kim (64) were two behind.

LOOMING: Scottie Scheffler (68) was among those three back.

LEAVING: Jordan Spieth missed the cut in his bid to win the PGA Championship and complete the career Grand Slam. Also missing the cut was Justin Thomas, who won the PGA Championship the last time it was at Quail Hollow.

SHOT OF THE DAY: Si Woo Kim made a hole-in-one on the 252-yard sixth hole, the longest ace in major championship. Kim set the record last year at the British Open when he made a hole-in-one on the 238-yard 17th hole at Royal Troon.

DRIVE OF THE DAY: Max Homa hit his tee shot to within a foot for eagle on the 340-yard 14th hole.

KEY STATISTIC: Two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and former U.S. Open champion Matt Fitzpatrick are the only players among the top 16 who have won a major.

NOTEWORTHY: Jhonattan Vegas is only the second player in the last 42 years to lead after each of the opening two rounds in the PGA Championship. The other was Brooks Koepka in 2019 at Bethpage Black.

QUOTEWORTHY: “That felt like it was better than a 3.” — J.T. Poston, who hit it into the water on the par-3 17th and holed out from the drop zone for a par.

TELEVISION: Saturday, 8-10 a.m. (ESPN+), 10 a.m.-1 p.m. (ESPN), 1-7 p.m. (CBS).
