Man who fired at Alabama officers is shot and killed, police say
RAINBOW CITY, Ala. (AP) — A man who fired at officers during a domestic dispute was shot and killed by police in eastern Alabama, authorities said.
Rainbow City police said in a news release that the fatal shooting happened Wednesday. Officers responded to a call about a domestic incident that turned into a “hostage situation,” police said.

“The subject fired shots at officers on scene, and the incident ended in an officer involved shooting,” the department wrote in a statement posted on Facebook. Officers returned fire, killing the man.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is reviewing the shooting at the request of the police department. The agency said the findings will be turned over to the Etowah County district attorney’s office.
On Thursday, the state agency identified the dead man as Jamin David Elkins, 46, of Mount Dora, Florida, which is 30 miles (48 kilometers) northwest of Orlando.
Rainbow City is about 93 miles (153 kilometers) west of Atlanta.
