A rifle-wielding gunman shot Rep. Steve Scalise, R-La., and wounded several others Wednesday at a congressional baseball practice just outside of Washington. Capitol Police said officers who were part of Scalise’s security detail returned fire and wounded the shooter, who was taken into custody and later died. At least five people were taken to area hospitals, including the suspect, Alexandria police said. Scalise is the No. 3 Republican in the House.
