Yankees top prospect Jasson Domínguez goes on minor league IL
BOSTON (AP) — Yankees top prospect Jasson Domínguez was placed on the minor league injured list.
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said at Fenway Park Sunday that Domínguez felt something in his left side on a checked swing in a game playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a day earlier.
“He felt it in the side on the checked swing, so he’s getting tested (Sunday),” Boone said, pointing at his mid-left side while sitting in the Yankees dugout before they faced the Red Sox in the series finale.
“It was enough to put him on the IL right away at least,” Boone said. “We’ll hopefully have an idea of exactly what we’ve got by tonight or tomorrow.”
The 21-year-old Domínguez returned from rehab following right ulnar collateral ligament surgery last September. He completed a rehab assignment and was optioned to Triple-A on June 12 while he waited for a big-league opportunity.
Last season, he belted four homers in eight games for the Yankees, batting .258 before he had to undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.
