GOP’s Feenstra rides strength in west to renomination for US House

Feenstra had opened up an insurmountable lead over challenger Kevin Virgil in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District when the AP declared him the winner of the GOP primary at 10:10 p.m. ET.

Twenty of the district’s 36 counties had released results. Feenstra was performing particularly well in the western reaches of the district, which includes the counties just north of Des Moines, winning more than two-thirds of the votes in that region.

New Jersey’s Sussex County will continue to report

Sussex County in northern New Jersey has traditionally released its votes all at once. However, local election officials told the AP that the first report will not contain all ballots and the county will continue to release results as they are tabulated. The county includes parts of the 5th and 7th congressional districts.

Menendez Jr. leads in initial returns

Rep. Rob Menendez has led his opponents for New Jersey’s 8th Congressional District in each batch of vote results released. The district includes part of three suburban counties just west of New York City.

His well-funded challenger, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla, is running closest to him in Essex County, where Bhalla trails by about 6 percentage points. In Hudson County, which includes Hoboken, Menendez has won at least 50% in all three vote updates.

Half of the New Jersey Senate matchup is set

Kim will be the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, the AP declared 15 minutes after polls closed.

His Republican opponent has not yet been determined. Hotelier Curtis Bashaw and Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner are the top two vote-getters with initial returns from six of the state’s 21 counties.

AP will call races in 5 states and District of Columbia

Elections are being held today in Iowa, New Jersey, New Mexico, Montana, South Dakota and the District of Columbia.

The Associated Press doesn’t make projections. AP will declare a winner only when it’s determined there is no scenario that would allow the trailing candidates to close the gap.

If a race hasn’t been called, the AP will continue to cover any newsworthy developments, such as candidate concessions or declarations of victory. In doing so, the AP will make clear that it has not yet declared a winner and explain why.
