Let’s get to work? Not yet: Gov. Scott delays US Senate oath

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Florida Gov. Rick Scott is supposed to start his new job as a U.S. senator, but he’s delaying his swearing in ostensibly to keep his promise to fight for Floridians every day of his current term.

While other senators were being sworn in Thursday, Scott’s official schedule showed him starting the day at 3:15 p.m. for about two hours of “staff and call time.”

It’s reflective of the light official schedule he’s been keeping since being elected to the Senate Nov. 6. In the 58 days since, the schedule posted online and emailed to media is blank 41 days.

Scott spokesman McKinley Lewis said the governor has been working hard and not all his activity is reflected in the publicly released schedule.
